Let's get to know each other!
March 2021
Dear Everybody,
I always start the year by sharing a letter with my students… and this year it seems more appropriate than ever!
As you know by now, my name is Daniel. In fact, it’s my middle name – the first one being Roberto, a name nobody has ever called me by. I don’t dislike it; it’s just that I’ve always been called Daniel. I’m just about to turn 58 and by the end of the year I will have been teaching for 38 years. And I’m very glad to say I earn my living doing something I truly enjoy doing. Indeed, ever since I was 5 I always knew I wanted to be a teacher. Apart from you, I work in a few other schools and I also teach at the Language Laboratory at UBA.
As for other interests, I’m a voracious reader, and I read everything – fiction and non-fiction as well. I’m also fond of music, especially American or British pop, especially from the 70s and 80s – the more mainstream, usually the better. Mind you, I appreciate other genres too, I always try to keep an open mind about music.
One other thing I do is try to keep fit and so I’ve been hitting the gym regularly during the summer and hope to be able to keep it up during the year. I also grab any chance I have to ride my bike and I love just going out for a walk and taking pictures of our beautiful city. I would also like to (finally!) learn how to swim this year.
Right now I am single and unattached. This, of course, does not mean I am alone. I’ve got my family: brother, sister-in-law, my 4 nephews and 2 nieces and my grandniece. I confess they are my weak spot – they can do whatever they want of me. All of them (plus their dog and a couple of cats) live in a house in Villa Urquiza, whereas I live in a flat in Colegiales.
And I’ve also got my friends, with whom I used toget together, at least once a week, mostly to have dinner and sometimes catch a film or something. Right now, of course, when we meet is through Zoom!
Well, enough about me for now. Please tell me a bit about yourself. I’d like to know about you, your interests, and also your expectations about this course.
I’m looking forward to reading your letter.
Yours,
Daniel
